Council President Nikolić meets CPC Central Committee Politburo Member tasked with international cooperation

President of the National Council for Coordination of Cooperation with the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China Tomislav Nikolić had a meeting today with Yang Jiechi Member of the CPC Central Committee Politburo tasked with international cooperation. The meeting was held in Beijing.

“Serbia is hugely contributing to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and we highly appreciate the fact. We believe that our relations will develop further. President Xi Jinping highly values the relations and the personal friendship you have been developing for years and it was his wish that we should welcome you in Beijing as a true friend; therefore, he instructed me to convey to you his most cordial greetings. China considers Serbia a friend, we are wholeheartedly supporting and anticipating Serbia’s economic and social progress. You can count on our support regarding the preservation of your territorial integrity and sovereignty, and we are grateful to the people of Serbia for siding with us in matters of vital and national importance. We are ready to hear all your proposals for practical cooperation with Serbia, in areas where you believe we can make progress”, Yang Jiechi emphasized.

“China will continue to invest in the Smederevo Steel Mill capital and machinery. The first stage of the Kostolac Thermal Power Plant has been completed, we have embarked upon the second stage, and we hope that Serbia will support the planned works on Kostolac A and B. I expect that you will have important talks in China over the next days. China supports powerful companies participating in privatizations on the basis of market principles”, the Politburo Member underlined.

Mr. Yang Jiechi asked National Council President Nikolić to convey President Xi Jinping’s sincere greetings to Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vučić.

“Serbia is the only country to have set up a Council tasked with collaborating with China, which is much illustrative both of the wish and of the realistic need to maintain an uninterrupted contact between our peoples, and to further promote relations in all areas. The relationship between Serbia and China is unbreakable. We have commenced our cooperation with infrastructural projects, we expanded it by means of the successful privatization of the Smederevo Steel Mill, and I am looking forward to the MSC “Bor” privatization, too. I am grateful to President Xi Jinping for paying constant attention to the consolidation of our two countries’ cooperation. I congratulate you on the successfully completed 19th Congress. May you achieve all the goals set in the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China”, Mr. Nikolić emphasized.

In the talks, Council President Nikolić also congratulated Yang Jiechi on his appointment to a higher post.
