National Council President Nikolić talks to PR China Ambassador and Vice President of CMEC

President of the National Council for Coordination of Cooperation with the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China Tomislav Nikolić had a meeting today with Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China Li Manchang and representatives of the China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC), headed by its Vice President Tong Zigang.

Council President Nikolić underlined that Serbia and China had excellent and friendly relations, cemented by good economic relations, too. “CMEC has been carrying out successful business operations in Serbia for a number of years now, and we collaborate on execution of numerous projects, which makes me most pleased. We discussed the project of building gas-fired thermal power plants in Serbian cities facing severe air pollution, due to the use of coal as the main energy source. There is interest in Serbia to launch this project, and it can be implemented together with CMEC, Mr. Nikolić underlined.

Mr. Tong Zigang stressed that CMEC had already had experience with these projects in countries such as Belarus, Pakistan and Nigeria. “CMEC is grateful for the trust bestowed upon it in Serbia, and is very much interested in engaging in further talks to enter into contractual relations resulting in the construction of gas-fired thermal power plants in Serbia, too”, he highlighted.
